A resin kit of a military airfield tug on the chassis of the MAN LE 10.220 truck, in 1:48 scale, from the Czech manufacturer CMK. The vehicle is presented in the equipment of the German armed forces and the set also includes a towbar, that is, the drawbar for connecting an aircraft being towed. It is not a model of an aircraft but ground servicing equipment that will extend an airfield scene, a diorama or a display case with models in the same scale. A resin kit is built differently from a plastic one, so we recommend it to more experienced modelers.
MAN is a German truck brand whose lighter and medium-heavy lines have long been used in both army and civilian fleets. The numerical designation of the type comes out of the weight category and the power of the engine according to the designation system of the manufacturer. Vehicles of this class are big enough to tow even a larger aircraft and at the same time maneuverable enough for moving around an apron and between hangars. Airfield tugs serve for moving aircraft to designated stands, into hangars and to places of maintenance, that is, everywhere it is undesirable for an aircraft to move under its own power. The cab tends to be fitted with warning lights, and the rear of the vehicle is usually modified as well for connecting the towbar.
First wash the resin parts in warm water with detergent, so that the remains of mold release agent are removed from the surface, as otherwise neither primer nor paint will hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a cutting disc, as the material is brittle and cracks when nipped. Sanding should be done wet and with protection for the airways. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, that is, super glue; ordinary cement for plastic does not work. Try the assembly dry first, and you can straighten small bent parts in warm water. Finish the cab and paint it before you close it up. After the primer, spray the paint in thin coats, and finally do restrained weathering, that is, a dark wash into the joints and dust pigments on the wheels and the lower parts.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted as a kit in resin. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
