New Ware 1:48 F-80A/C Shooting Star BASIC masking set holds die-cut self-adhesive masks for the glazing. It is especially useful on surfaces painted in a polished metal shade.
Responsibility details are not available.
The basic level of the masking range from New Ware in 1:48 scale. The package holds self-adhesive masks die-cut to the shape of the parts of a specific Hobby Boss kit. The set is used to protect the glazing during painting and to spray the canopy frames cleanly.
The F-80 Shooting Star was one of the first American jet fighters taken into frontline service. It is typified by its all-metal polished surface and the large bubble canopy, which on a model makes up a prominent visible area.
Metallic shades are the most demanding category of paint to mask. The coat tends to be thin, soft and sensitive to pressure, so a mask pressed down hard can leave a matte trace or the imprint of its edge when it is lifted. Work the other way round from what you are used to: spray and mask the canopy first, and only then do the metal finish. When you do have to lay a mask on metallic paint, reduce its tack — stick it onto the back of your hand and peel it off again, so that some of the adhesive transfers and the grip drops. Let the metallic paint cure longer than the instructions say and lift the mask slowly, back over itself at a shallow angle.
This is a masking set on its own. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
