A 1:48 sheet with seven F-15E machines of one American fighter squadron. Each aircraft carries artwork and a name of its own on the nose.
Responsibility details are not available.
The seven F-15E aircraft on this sheet come from one single fighter squadron, and one idea connects them: each machine was given artwork of its own with a name of its own on the nose. Among them appear Checkmate, Cerberus, Grizz, Boogeyman, Ashbringer and Billie Jean, and the seventh aircraft carries a name as well. Such a collection is rewarding for a modeler, because a whole squadron can be built from one envelope with every piece different.
The serial numbers fall into two groups. Four machines have numbers from the block beginning with the 1987 fiscal year, specifically 87-0173, 87-0169, 87-0209 and 87-0170, and the remaining three from 1988, that is 88-1699, 88-1678 and 88-1705. These are therefore early examples of a type that was entering service in exactly those years.
The E version differs substantially from the single-seat Eagles. It has a second crew member who works the systems for attacking ground targets, a strengthened structure and provision for carrying underfuselage tanks with equipment. Visually you can tell it by the lengthened canopy and by the darker finish used on this version instead of the light gray.
The artwork on the nose is small and colorful, so it deserves careful preparation of the surface. Polish the area to a gloss, lay the decal into a drop of water with a degreaser and, once it has dried, go over it with a matte varnish so that the glossy patch around the artwork disappears. The model and the shades are not supplied with the decals.
