A resin chin pod with the sensors of the AN/APR-25 system for the F-4B Phantom II in 1:48 scale is a detail accessory for a plastic kit. It replaces the simplified kit part with a more accurate casting.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin replacement for the chin pod with the antennas of the AN/APR-25 radar warning system for a model of the McDonnell F-4B Phantom II in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit of the aircraft but an accessory for builders who want the correct shape and fine detail of this prominent feature under the forward fuselage.
The F-4B was the naval version of the Phantom II intended for the US Navy and Marine Corps, a two-seat twin-engine aircraft with powerful onboard electronics. The AN/APR-25 was one of the warning devices that alerted the crew to radar illumination, and its antennas showed on the aircraft as exactly this additional pod under the nose. The feature is clearly visible on a model and its shape helps place the aircraft in a particular period of service.
First wash the casting in lukewarm soapy water to remove any mold release residue. Cut the casting block off with a saw or a cutting disc and sand the surface with fine paper, ideally wet and with respiratory protection. Before gluing, check dry how the part sits on the fuselage and even out any step with a thin layer of filler. It is bonded with super glue, that is cyanoacrylate, which unlike plastic cement joins resin reliably. Next comes a primer and only then the paint, otherwise the shades on the resin and the plastic could differ.
This is an accessory, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
