1:48 Me 163B Komet, marking masks for captured machines examined after the fighting ended.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of masks for the national insignia and markings of the Me 163B in the form used on machines captured after the fighting ended, 1:48 scale. A sprayed insignia keeps its shape even on areas where a large decal would ripple or break. For a collector it is at the same time a way to turn an ordinary type into a model you will not often meet in a display case.
After 1945 a number of rocket fighters ended up with the victorious powers, which took them away to test establishments. They could barely be flown, because the propellant was exceptionally aggressive and dangerous, but the design of a tailless glider with rocket power was studied in great detail. The machines were given new markings and finishes in the process, so photographs survive of Komets with British and American insignia. Some of the airframes went into collections and several examples have survived to this day, thanks to which we have a precise idea of how they looked.
White and light areas of an insignia need an opaque base, otherwise the darker camouflage shows through them. Press the edges of the stencil down with a blunt tool and apply the paint in short bursts square to the surface. Give the paint time between coats; with quick repeated spraying a drop forms under the edge. A model in captured markings also looks good next to the same type in its original colors.
