Painting masks for the insignia and numbers of the two-seat night fighter Messerschmitt Me 262 B-1/U-1 in 1:32 scale. A sprayed marking has no decal carrier film.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Messerschmitt Me 262 was the first jet fighter put into series service. The B-1/U-1 version came about from the two-seat B-1a trainer by conversion into a night fighter: a radar operator was added in the rear seat and the nose received an antenna array that was called antlers for its shape. Weight and drag grew as a result, so the machine lost part of the speed advantage that jet propulsion offered. These aircraft went into action only in the very last phase of the war and in small numbers only.
These are painting masks for the insignia and numbers, that is, for the elements usually dealt with on a model by decals. A sprayed cross or numeral has no glossy carrier film, makes no step on the surface and will take an intricate base. The extent of the sheet and the exact placement of the individual elements are described in the manufacturer's instructions. Before spraying, lay the masks on dry and compare them with the model, because the shape of the parts differs between kits of the same aircraft.
The masks are applied before spraying, not after it. Let the base shade cure thoroughly, and only then lay a mask on and press its edges down, so that paint does not run under it. Apply the paint in several thin layers; a single heavy layer likes to run under. Take the mask off while the finish is fresh, as otherwise the edge of the paint may tear away with it.
The set suits builders who want their insignia and numbers sprayed, and especially in a large scale, where every step under a decal is visible. The package contains masks; paints, glue and the kit itself are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
