A set of photo-etched parts in 1:48 scale for a model of the German Messerschmitt Me 262 A jet fighter aircraft. The metal parts replace shapes that plastic cannot make finely enough.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Me 262 A is a German fighter aircraft which, as the first jet machine in the world, reached series production and combat use. The power came from a pair of turbojets slung in nacelles under the wing with its swept leading edge. Against the propeller machines of the day it had a markedly higher speed, but it needed a longer take-off run and the engines had a short life. Nose landing gear was a novelty on German fighters at the time. The armament was four 30 mm cannon grouped in the nose.
It is a set of photo-etched parts in 1:48 scale. The metal sheet is etched chemically into the shape required, and the parts can therefore be as thin as the scale would call for; that cannot be achieved in plastic. The instructions supplied by the manufacturer give the extent of the parts and where they go on the model.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface and level what is left after separation with a fine file. Make the bends along the pressed score lines, ideally in an etch bender or between the jaws of flat tweezers; bending back and forth repeatedly will crack the sheet. Metal will not be joined by polystyrene cement, so use super glue or epoxy and apply only the smallest amount, so that it does not run onto a visible surface. Before painting, wash and degrease the sheet and back it with a primer coat, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface.
The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
