The set brings the German 13 mm MG 131 aircraft machine gun in 1:48 scale; the name states that there are two pieces. It is not a kit of an aircraft but an accessory that replaces simplified weapons made of plastic parts, typically where the weapon is visible on a finished model: in an open gun position or under an opened engine cowling.
The MG 131 was a 13 mm machine gun that became the standard in German aviation from the middle of the war. It replaced rifle-caliber weapons where their effect was no longer enough, that is in the fuselage mounts of fighters, in the flexible gun positions of bombers and in defensive stations. It was markedly smaller and lighter than comparable weapons of its opponents, and it was precisely this compactness that opened the way for it into cramped aircraft installations. On a model it is a weapon with a strikingly thin barrel and a broken-up body that injection-molded plastic rarely captures faithfully.
The barrels are thin and bend easily, so handle the parts with tweezers and fit them at the end of the build. The basis is a dark steel color, which once dry you polish lightly with graphite or a dry brush with a metal pigment; the surface of the mechanism thus gains a metallic sheen. Paint the inside of the gun position before you seat the weapon, because afterward you will not reach it with a brush. Strengthen the joints with super glue.
