A photo-etched metal set in 1:48 scale for a model of the Soviet MiG-17F fighter.
Responsibility details are not available.
The MiG-17 is a Soviet single-engined subsonic fighter that followed on from the older MiG-15 and differed from it mainly in a new wing with greater sweep and a longer fuselage. The version marked with the letter F is the form with an afterburner. The aircraft spread to a whole range of air arms and became one of the most numerous fighters of its time. For modeling it is a clean, smooth airframe on which fine details really show.
It is a set of photo-etched metal parts, as its listing among photo-etched accessories shows. The pieces are etched into thin sheet and held in a carrier fret, from which they are separated before use. Metal allows a thickness that cannot be reached with a plastic part. The exact composition of the fret and the placement of the individual pieces are given in the enclosed instructions.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a firm surface, as twisting will warp the thin sheet. When bending, hold the part along the whole length of the fold, otherwise the edge will ripple. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied in a small amount, so that it does not run into the surroundings. Before painting, wash and degrease the metal and apply a thin base coat, otherwise paint will not hold on the smooth surface.
The set suits modelers who build the MiG-17F and want visible details at a thickness appropriate to the scale. Working with small metal pieces calls for tweezers and patience. The kit itself, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
