Injection-molded sprues of the MiG-21PFM fighter in 1:48 scale in a bare package, which holds no decals and no metal accessories.
Responsibility details are not available.
The MiG-21PFM was the answer to operational experience from the earlier interceptor versions. Its cockpit was fundamentally reworked: a fixed windscreen and a cover hinged to the side replaced the earlier arrangement, in which the whole canopy lifted forward and during ejection served as a shield against the airflow. The machine also received a system for blowing the flaps, which shortened the landing run on short field strips. It was built from the middle of the 1960s and served in dozens of countries.
Inside, the builder will find plastic parts only. The sheets of markings are missing, as is everything that the richer issues have enclosed on top, that is the metal frets and the self-adhesive cut-outs. It makes sense when a modeler is building the same type for a second time.
With this type that is especially evident. The instrument panel, the side panels and the belts in photo-etched metal go into the seat at a time when the fuselage halves are still apart. Once they are glued, the interior is inaccessible and the only things that can be added later are the external details. The films for the glazing, by contrast, wait until the moment the airframe is sanded and ready for the base coat. The two aids therefore meet on one model, but the whole build separates them.
Builders who want to put together another example of a widely used type without the equipment they already have. It will also serve anyone who wants to build two machines of different operators side by side.
