A resin pitot (pitot-static) tube for the Soviet MiG-23 Flogger fighter in 1:48 scale from the Quickboost brand. It is not an airplane model but an accurate replacement part for experienced modelers, which swaps the thick-walled plastic item from the kit for a fine and straight casting with the correct shape and profile. The tube on the nose is among the most conspicuous and at the same time the most fragile features of the aircraft silhouette, so a faithful part lifts the impression the model makes.

What the part is for

The MiG-23 was a widespread Soviet supersonic fighter with a variable-geometry wing, which served with dozens of countries including the former Czechoslovakia. The pitot tube on its nose measures the airspeed and is clearly visible from a distance; in plastic it tends to be cast coarsely and bends or breaks easily during building. The resin replacement is more accurate in shape and looks more delicate. The part is meant to refine an existing MiG-23 model in the same scale.

Usage tips

First wash the resin part in lukewarm soapy water to remove mold release residue from the mold. Cut off the casting block with a sharp knife or a fine saw and clean up the surface; protect your airways when sanding resin. Bond with super glue (cyanoacrylate) — ordinary cement for plastic does not hold on resin. Fit the tube at the very end of the build, so that it is not damaged while the model is handled, and repaint it to match the real aircraft.
