The real subject

The MiG-25 is a Soviet twin-engined aircraft intended for flight at high speed and high altitude. The RBT version belongs to the reconnaissance-bomber series, which carried reconnaissance equipment in the forward fuselage. For a modeler the typical features are the angular nose, the massive air intakes and the intricately divided cockpit glazing, covering which tends to be the slowest job in painting.

What the set contains

The package contains pre-cut self-adhesive masks for a model in 1:48 scale. The individual parts follow the shape of the glazing and of the other surfaces that are to stay free of paint, so there is no need to cut strips of tape directly on the model and no risk that the blade will scratch a transparent part.

Building and painting tips

Stick the masks onto a clean, degreased surface before spraying and press the edges down carefully with a blunt point so that paint cannot seep under them. Apply the coat in several light layers; a thick layer tears when the mask is lifted. Lift the masks shortly after the paint has dried; at sharp corners it helps to raise the edge with the point of a scalpel. Inspect the transparent parts against the light beforehand, because neither a fingerprint nor dust can be put right once they are under a mask.

The set suits anyone who wants sharp transitions between the cockpit frames and the glazing and does not want to cut them laboriously. Before sticking them down, lay the parts on dry and check that their shape matches the parts of your kit. The package contains only the masking parts; the model, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
