1:48 MiG-29 Fulcrum 9-12 Expert kabuki masks

Masking set 1:48 MiG-29 Fulcrum 9-12 - EXPERT grade

Pre-cut kabuki tape masks for a model of the MiG-29 fighter in production version 9-12 in 1:48 scale. With New Ware sets the EXPERT designation is the highest grade of coverage - the set goes beyond ordinary canopy masking and covers noticeably more surfaces of the model than the BASIC and ADVANCED variants. The model and paints are not included in the package.

When markings are sprayed instead of applied

Markings can be applied with masks as well, and where the scope of the set allows it, it is worth doing so. A sprayed insignia or number looks different from a decal: it has no carrier film, it does not silver on a flat varnish and it does not wrinkle where it crosses a rivet or a panel line. The MiG-29 in particular has large continuous surfaces with markings placed right across them, so the difference is easy to see. The work is slower than with decals, but the result stands up to a close-up photograph.

A procedure that has proved itself

• Let the base coat cure properly - tape pulls at fresh paint.
• Lay the mask from the center toward the edges and press the edges down firmly.
• First spray the area with the base color; that seals any creep and the actual shade then comes out with a clean edge.
• Apply the color in several thin coats so that no palpable step forms.
• Leave the glazing and the frames until last, so that sanding dust does not settle on them.
• Leave unused pieces on the carrier sheet and store them flat in a dry place.

Who the set is for

• More experienced modelers who want to finish a model without decal films.
• Builders of modern jet aircraft in 1:48 scale.
• Anyone building several MiG-29 versions who wants to keep the same standard across them.

This is a painting accessory, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
