The addition Small version in the name distinguishes this item from the full version; it is aimed at builders who want to lift both cockpits with details rendered in color but do not need the widest scope available.

The real subject

The MiG-31 came about as a heavy two-seat interceptor for defending a vast airspace, where range and speed are the foundation and not agility. The pilot sits at the front and behind him the weapon systems operator with his own panel; it is precisely this pair of stations that makes the interior an interesting place on a model. The BM version went through an avionics rebuild in which some of the analog gauges were replaced with screens.

Building advice

• Finish the tubs of both cockpits before you reach for the set.
• Sand the surfaces to be covered gently flat.
• Fit it in stages and keep testing that the glazing beds down.
• Better not to put a heavy coat of varnish over the finished detail.
• Follow the instructions enclosed by the manufacturer.
