An injection-molded plastic kit of the Mi-24 attack helicopter in the P version, to which the code designation Hind-F corresponds. The model in 1:48 scale comes from Trumpeter. On a machine this large the 1:48 scale makes sense: the rotor disc and the fuselage show well, while the model still stays reasonably compact in a display case. The exact number of parts, the package contents and the extent of the decal sheet are stated by the manufacturer on the box.
The Mi-24 is an unusual design — it combines an attack helicopter with a compartment for carrying troops, something that was not repeated on later attack types. The P version is recognized from the older forms above all by its armament: instead of a trainable turret in the nose it carries a fixed twin-barrel 30 mm cannon on the right side of the fuselage. Its hallmarks are the tandem cockpits with stepped glazing, the short wings with pylons, the massive five-blade main rotor and the retractable landing gear. The type is widespread with a number of European and non-European users and has seen many upgrade programs.
Work from the interior: both cockpits have to be finished and painted before the fuselage is closed, because you can see well into them through the glazing. Glue the glazing with a cement for clear plastic or with PVA glue so that it does not go cloudy. For masking the subdivided windows, ready-made masks or narrow tape pay off. Fit the landing gear and the cannon only after the base colors have been sprayed. Multi-color camouflage is best done with an airbrush and soft transitions; prepare the base with a primer. Apply a gloss coat before the decals, then unify the surface with a matte one. For weathering, bringing out the panel lines, fine dust on the lower part of the fuselage and sooty traces of exhaust behind the outlets work well — on a helicopter a slightly dusty upper surface around the rotor head looks natural too.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
