This item is not a kit and not a photo-etched set but a set of painting masks. They are pre-cut masks that are applied to the glazing of a model and cover the areas of glass during spraying. Once they are taken off, the frames stay painted and the glass stays clean, with a sharp transition that is hard to achieve with tape by hand. The maker is Eduard, a Czech brand.
Cutting a mask out of tape by hand hurts especially on a helicopter, because the glazed cabin has a complicated shape and there are a great many frames. The set also deals with the small areas that tape is hard to cut for, and above all it saves time. A straight line on the frame is exactly what everyone notices on a finished model.
The Mil Mi-4 was a Soviet transport helicopter of the 1950s with a piston radial engine, a four-blade main rotor and cargo doors in the rear of the fuselage. The Mi-4A version served as a transport and troop-carrying machine. The pilot's cabin sits high above the cargo compartment and is extensively glazed, so there really are a great many frames to mask on a model.
Wash and degrease the glazing before masking so that the mask holds. Move the mask with tweezers and press it down with a toothpick, especially around the perimeter, otherwise the paint will creep under. Spray several thin passes rather than one heavy one, and take the mask off while the paint is still fresh, not after several days. If you are spraying a clear coat, expect the removal to have to be timed in the same way.
