1:48 Mil Mi-8MT - a single-sided Art Scale mask for the Trumpeter model

This item is a set of pre-cut self-adhesive masking templates in 1:48 scale for the glazing of the Mil Mi-8MT transport and combat helicopter. It is not a model but an accessory for one: the templates are pressed onto the clear parts and, once sprayed, leave precise frames with no paint bleeding. The set is cut for the Mi-8MT model from the maker Trumpeter.

The single-sided form covers the outer side of the glazing. If you want to paint the frames visible from the cockpit as well, a double-sided variant of the same item is made.

What the mask is for

The Mi-8 has extensive glazing: the large front panes of the pilot's cockpit, side windows and a row of round ports along the fuselage. It is the round ports that are hardest to mask with tape by hand, and asymmetry is conspicuous on a finished model. Pre-cut templates cut the whole job down to a few minutes.

How the mask is used

• Degrease the glazing and let it dry completely.
• Lift the templates with tweezers and lay them from the center of the pane toward the edges.
• Press the edges down with a toothpick, so that no paint runs under them.
• Spray in thin coats and lift the mask off shortly after it dries.
