1:48 Mitsubishi A6M3 Zero landing flaps is an Eduard photo-etched set with landing flaps for a model of the Zero. An accessory for a kit, not the model itself.
Responsibility details are not available.
A photo-etched set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard focused on the landing flaps of a model of the Japanese A6M3 fighter in 1:48 scale. The metal parts make it possible to show the flaps in the lowered position and at the same time to reveal their internal structure, which injection-molded plastic simplifies because of the thickness of its walls. It is a partial set focused on one assembly of the airframe, not a full photo-etched set covering the interior and the exterior alike. The kit is not included in the package.
The A6M3 was the version of the Zero with the Sakae 21 engine fitted with a single-stage two-speed supercharger. Model 32 had clipped, squarely finished wingtips; Model 22 returned to the longer wing with folding tips and a larger fuel supply, which restored the range. The Zero was known for exceptional agility and range, bought at the cost of a light structure and limited passive protection. In 1942 it formed the backbone of the Japanese fighter force in the Pacific theater.
The flap bay usually has to be opened in the plastic, so reckon with cutting and sanding the wing. Separate the photo-etched parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard support and make the folds in a bending tool or between the jaws of flat pliers. They are glued with super glue, and stressed joints with epoxy. Degrease the sheet before painting and go over it with a primer. Finish and paint the flap assembly before you glue it into the wing.
The set is an accessory for a kit, not a model on its own. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
