Responsibility details are not available.
Eduard painting masks intended for the P-51B and P-51C Mustangs that carried the British Malcolm Hood sliding canopy. This one-piece bulged hood was created in England as a replacement for the original framed glazing and markedly improved the pilot's view to the sides and to the rear. On a model in 1:48 scale the hood has smooth rounded edges, where any inaccuracy in the dividing line between the frame and the clear area shows at first glance – and that is exactly where the masks save the most work. If you are building an aircraft with the original framed glazing, reach for the sister framed canopy set.
The Malcolm Hood was fitted both to American P-51B and P-51C aircraft and to the Mustang Mk.III of the Royal Air Force. Merlin-powered Mustangs were among the best escort fighters of the war, and with the bulged hood they partly made up for the main weakness of the early versions, the limited view from the cockpit. The modification was carried out at combat units as well as in repair shops, so it appeared in all sorts of combinations with the camouflage and markings of both air forces – there is no end of subjects for an interesting model.
Spray the frame of the hood with the interior color first and only then with the outer camouflage, so that it looks convincing from the inside. The edges of the masks have to seat perfectly against the surface before spraying, so the lines stay sharp even on the rounded areas.
