This resin set from Quickboost, made by Aires, brings faithfully cast underwing pylons for a model of the American twin-engine Grumman OV-1 Mohawk reconnaissance aircraft in 1:48 scale. It is not an airplane model but a detail accessory for more experienced modelers, replacing the coarser plastic parts with a crisper and more exact casting. On the real aircraft the pylons carried drop tanks, reconnaissance pods and other underwing equipment.

The real subject

The Grumman OV-1 Mohawk was an American twin-engine turboprop aircraft for battlefield reconnaissance and observation, operated by the US Army. The crew of two sat side by side, and the strong straight wing gave the aircraft the endurance for long patrols and the ability to operate from short, unprepared strips. Among other places, the Mohawk served in Vietnam, in Central and South America and during Operation Desert Storm.

Tips for working with resin

First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water to remove mold release residue from the mold. Cut off the casting blocks with a saw and sand the cut surfaces with respiratory protection. Bond the parts with super glue (cyanoacrylate), not with plastic cement.
