A resin detail set from Aires in 1:48 scale made to improve the cockpit of the plastic kit of the Lockheed P-38J Lightning. The set replaces the original kit interior with finely cast cockpit parts carrying rich relief on the instrument panel, the side consoles and the seat. It is not an airplane model but an accessory for a kit.
The P-38 Lightning was an American twin-engine fighter of the Second World War with an unmistakable pair of tail booms and a central nacelle for the pilot. The J version was powered by a pair of Allison V-1710 engines and was marked by reworked radiators and a better layout. The type served as a fighter, a fighter-bomber and a photo-reconnaissance aircraft on every major front.
First wash the parts to remove any mold release agent and separate them carefully from the casting blocks. They are bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate), and resin should be sanded with your airways protected. Check the fit before the nacelle is closed. The interior is brought out with a shaded cockpit color, a dry brush on the edges and a wash into the recesses.
This is a resin accessory for a kit, not a model in its own right. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
