A set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for the glazing of a model of the American twin-boom Lockheed P-38J Lightning fighter in 1:48 scale from Art Scale. It is neither a model nor decals but an accessory to a build. Double-sided means that the set covers the masking of the outer as well as the inner side of the clear parts. You can therefore spray the frames in the interior color from the inside and in the final finish from the outside, so that bare transparent plastic does not shine out when you look into the cockpit. That pays off above all on a model with the side panels lowered or the top panel open, where the inside of the glazing is visible. A single-sided variant of the same type is made separately. The masks are cut to the outline of the kit from Tamiya.
The Lockheed P-38 Lightning was an American twin-engine fighter with two booms and a central nacelle in which the pilot sat and the whole armament was concentrated in the nose. A pair of liquid-cooled Allison V-1710 engines with turbochargers gave the machine good performance at high altitude and a long range. The P-38J version moved the intercoolers into deeper housings under the propellers, which is the most conspicuous external difference from the earlier machines. Later production blocks received a flat bulletproof windscreen panel and dive flaps. The cockpit of the P-38 is divided into angular panes, where precision in masking shows at once.
Degrease the clear parts and let them dry. Lift the masks off the sheet with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel, seat them starting from one edge and push the air out. Go over the edges with a wooden toothpick. First stick on and spray the inner side in the interior color, let it dry and only then mask and spray from the outside. Apply the paint in several thin coats. Remove the masks shortly after the paint is dry, pulling them back over themselves at a sharp angle, and wipe any adhesive residue off with lukewarm water.
This is an accessory set of masks, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
