Shaped masks for covering the teardrop canopy of the P-47D model in 1:48 scale, cut to the kit by Tamiya.

The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was among the heaviest single-engine fighters of the Second World War. Its weight came from the massive radial engine with a turbocharger whose ducting took up a large part of the fuselage. The D version with the teardrop canopy, introduced in 1944, removed the main weakness of the earlier machines, namely the poor view to the rear, and became the most numerously built variant of the whole type.
At first the type escorted bomber formations over Germany; later the weight of its work shifted to attacks on ground targets, where its durability proved itself. The air-cooled engine took a hit that would have finished a liquid-cooled machine, and eight 12.7 mm machine guns could break up a train or a column of vehicles. Pilots nicknamed it the Jug for its bulky fuselage. Despite its weight the machine made its name for fast diving, in which few opponents could keep up with it.
The contents of the package are shaped masks for 1:48 scale, cut to the frames of the teardrop canopy of the kit by Tamiya. Working with them is faster and more accurate than taping by hand and the edge of the frame comes out straight even where the canopy curves. The base has to be free of grease from the fingers, otherwise the mask holds badly and paint bleeds. After spraying, the mask is peeled off with a pull at a slant from the edge, never straight up. The leftover pieces of backing film serve for covering small openings.
