An injection-molded plastic kit of the American Republic P-47D Thunderbolt fighter-bomber in 1:48 scale from the Italian manufacturer Italeri. The model captures one of the most widespread versions of this heavy fighter. A decal sheet for several color schemes and color building instructions are part of the package.
The P-47 Thunderbolt was among the largest and heaviest single-seat fighters of the Second World War. It was powered by a strong Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radial engine of over 2000 horsepower, which gave it excellent performance at high altitude. The Thunderbolt stood out for its toughness, for the heavy armament of eight machine guns and for its ability to carry bombs and rockets. It found use as an escort fighter for bombers and as a feared destroyer of ground targets in low-level attacks.
Start with the cockpit and the engine: the radial engine behind the cowling is worth working up and picking out with a wash. Glue and mask the glazing of the canopy before spraying. Glue the plastic with thin modeling cement, even the surface out with a primer and apply the paint with an airbrush. Some machines flew in bare metal (natural metal), where metallics and fine panel transitions come out; others carried olive drab on top. Fit the drop tanks, bombs and rockets according to the scheme you choose, and build the weathering up with washes and exhaust staining.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
