Masking film in 1:48 scale for the cockpit of the P-51B Mustang fighter. The manufacturer's description states cover of the glazing from the outer and the inner side and one set of national insignia masks.
Responsibility details are not available.
The letter B in the Mustang's designation says not only the order of the version but also the place of manufacture. Machines from Inglewood in California carried the letter B, practically identical aircraft from Dallas in Texas received the letter C, and in the units they were commonly mixed. The armament was more modest than on the later Mustangs, four heavy machine guns housed in the wing at a slant and lying on their side. It was precisely that housing which caused trouble: in a turn under high load the belts jammed and the weapons fell silent. Pilots complained until a straightened housing and powered ammunition feed were arrived at.
Vinyl masks age in two ways. The adhesive hardens over time and stops being pliable, so the film lifts on curved glass and paint gets under it. The second manifestation is the opposite: on a sheet stored in the warm the adhesive softens instead, a sticky film is left on the glass after lifting and it has to be taken off with a cotton bud moistened in alcohol. If a sheet lies at home for several years, it is worth trying one edge piece on a scrap of clear sprue before the work and only then continuing according to the result.
A fresh sheet is recognized by the fact that a piece can be lifted from the backing without breaking and, once stuck down, can be carefully shifted once more without the edge rippling or tearing in a sharp corner.
