An injection-molded plastic kit of the American fighter P-51B/C Mustang in 1:48 scale from Eduard, in the ProfiPACK edition. The model depicts an early Merlin-powered Mustang fitted with the characteristic dorsal fin ahead of the vertical tail. The package combines injection-molded plastic with photo-etch and painting masks; a single kit can build either the B or the C variant with a dorsal fin. Check the exact package contents and the number of decal schemes against the manufacturer's part number for this item.
The P-51B and P-51C were the first mass-deployed Mustangs with the British liquid-cooled Merlin engine (built under license by Packard), which gave the aircraft excellent high-altitude performance. These aircraft made their mark mainly as long-range bomber escorts over Europe. Early versions with the malcolm-frame-less canopy suffered from reduced directional stability, so a dorsal fin was later fitted to many aircraft to improve it.
Glue the parts with liquid plastic cement and carefully sand down the seams. Paint and highlight the cockpit interior and engine section before closing the fuselage. Apply gloss varnish before decals; the typical polished natural-metal finishes of Mustangs stand out well with a combination of metallic shades and a light wash on the panel lines.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
