A replacement framed canopy for the Mustang P-51B and P-51C in 1:48 scale. It replaces the clear part from the kit with a thinner and more transparent one.
Responsibility details are not available.
In the B and C versions the American P-51 Mustang fighter still had the original low cockpit with a framed canopy; the two versions differed mainly in the factory the machines came from. Rearward visibility was a weakness of this arrangement, so some of the machines received the bulged sliding canopy known as the Malcolm type, and later versions then got an all-round canopy without frames. The framed cockpit is therefore one of the things that set the early series of Mustangs apart at first glance.
A replacement clear canopy in the framed version for the P-51B and P-51C in 1:48 scale, listed in the LööKplus accessory range from Eduard. It replaces the part from the kit and offers a thinner wall, sharper frames and a cleaner view into the cockpit, which is useful especially where the interior has been upgraded and is meant to be seen.
Handle the clear part with gloves or hold it by the edges, because fingerprints are hard to remove once it is painted. Do not use ordinary cyanoacrylate, which fogs transparent surfaces; reach for a glue intended for clear parts. Wash the part before painting and let it dry thoroughly. Mask the frames with masking tape cut into strips before spraying, spray the interior shade first and, once it has dried, the top color of the airframe. Remove the masks carefully with pointed tweezers.
For modelers who build the early version of the Mustang and want the worked-up cockpit to be really visible once it is covered. The model itself, paints, masks and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
