A plastic kit of the American North American P-51D Mustang fighter in the D-10 production block, in 1:48 scale. The manufacturer is the Czech company Eduard, a brand known for fine surface engraving and modern tooling. The product designation corresponds to the manufacturer's simpler edition, focused on the plastic and the decals alone, so the exact contents of the package are given on the leaflet inside the kit.
The P-51D was the peak of Mustang development and one of the most successful fighters of the Second World War. The fundamental change from the earlier versions was the bubble canopy with a cut-down fuselage spine, which gave the pilot an all-round view, and the heavier armament of six heavy machine guns in the wings. Power came from a supercharged V12 derived from the British Merlin, built under license in the United States. Thanks to its great range and drop tanks, the Mustang escorted bomber formations all the way to targets deep inside Germany, which fundamentally changed the course of the daylight air offensive. The D-10 production block belongs to the early part of the later series, on which directional stability was being addressed.
Finish the cockpit before you close up the fuselage, as it is clearly visible under the bubble canopy. Leave the glazing to be fitted last and mask the frames. The natural metal finish is the most demanding part of the work on a Mustang: it calls for a perfectly smooth, clean surface, because every sanding mark will show. Use a gloss black or gray base and spray the metallic shades over it in thin coats; individual panels can be set apart slightly so that the surface does not look flat. Do not sand a metal finish or cover it with tape that has an aggressive adhesive. Apply the decals over a gloss surface and do not put masking tape over them. Tone the exhausts and the areas behind them with a dark wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
