A set of precisely cut self-adhesive masks for painting the national insignia onto a model of the Japanese Aichi B7A2 Ryusei Kai carrier bomber in 1:48 scale. Instead of decals you spray the insignia on directly in paint, so that they follow the surface perfectly and no glossy film or edge of the kind typical of a decal appears.
Sprayed insignia stand up better to subsequent weathering techniques and to matte varnish, because they are part of the paintwork. The result looks more realistic and is more durable than a classic decal, especially on the contoured surfaces of the wings and the fuselage.
First lay down the base color of the insignia, then place the mask on the dried base and spray over it with the color of the surrounding camouflage. Transfer the mask with tweezers, press it down carefully along the edges and lift it while the finish is still fresh.
