The set from Black Dog model adds to a part-built kit of the German light tank from Tamiya the equipment that crews carried on the outside, on the hull and on the turret. Resin castings carry sharper edges and deeper detail than injected plastic, because the mold does not have to allow for the direction in which the part is ejected. The letters A, B and C in the designation refer to the early versions of the tank, to which the gear is cut.
The Panzerkampfwagen II was created as an interim type until production of stronger vehicles got going, and in the end it bore the main burden of the campaigns in Poland and in France. It was armed with a 20 mm automatic cannon and a coaxial machine gun; the crew consisted of three men and the commander worked the turret alone. The early versions stood on five large road wheels sprung by leaf springs, which is the most conspicuous recognition feature from the side.
First wash the castings in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap so that no mold release agent is left on the surface. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine-bladed saw, not with nippers, which shatter resin. Cyanoacrylate glue holds the joints; protect your airways when sanding. A thin spray of filler primer reveals small bubbles before the paint covers them.
