Pilot X-15 in 1:48 scale — a resin figure of the pilot of the experimental North American X-15 rocket plane in a full pressure suit from the Czech manufacturer Plus Model.
Responsibility details are not available.
This figure from the aviation range of the Czech manufacturer Plus Model presents the pilot of the experimental North American X-15 rocket plane in 1:48 scale. It is a resin casting that will perfectly liven up a model of the X-15 in a display case or serve as the basis of a small scene from an American test base. It is not a stand-alone kit of the aircraft but a figural accessory to it.
The X-15 program was among the peaks of American aviation engineering at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s. The rocket plane, released from under the wing of a B-52 carrier, reached speeds over Mach 6 and altitudes at the very edge of space. The pilots of NASA and the US Air Force, among them the later astronaut Neil Armstrong, flew in full pressure suits that protected the body in the thin atmosphere of high altitude and gave the pilots of the X-15 their unmistakable silhouette.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water so that the remains of the mold release agent are removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a sharp modeling knife or a saw and glue the joints with cyanoacrylate glue. Spray the figure with primer before painting; the suit tends to look silvery in period photographs, so a good metallic paint completed by a fine dark wash to bring the folds and the details of the kit out will come in useful.
The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
