A diorama set joining a poster column with the figure of a civilian in 1:48 scale from the Czech maker Hauler. It is not a model, nor a part for one particular kit, but a separate element for building a scene. The column with the figure beside it makes a finished micro-story: a passer-by has stopped and is reading what is posted on the column, and the viewer knows at once where the scene is set. Check the contents of the package once you have unwrapped it.
A cylindrical poster column was an ordinary part of towns and of larger villages from the end of the 19th century, and in many countries it has lasted to this day. In a diorama it fills three tasks at once: it fills a corner of the scene with a vertical element, it gives it a legible place of action, and it carries information, because the period and the country can be suggested on the posters. It works well on a sidewalk by a facade, on a village green, by a station or at a crossroads with equipment driving past. Given its height it also acts as a support of the composition, balancing the low mass of the vehicles.
Paint the whole column first and only then deal with the posters. Stick paper posters on with thin white glue applied with a brush, moistening the paper lightly beforehand so that it does not go wavy on the cylindrical surface. Do not tear the edges with scissors but with your fingers, because torn paper has a soft, credible edge; by overlapping them a layer of older and newer postings then arises, which is always visible on a real column. Once it has dried, draw a light dark wash over the whole, which settles the posters and unifies the joins. Paint the figure separately and glue it on at the very end, so that it does not get in your way while you work on the column. Around the foot of the column add dust, fallen leaves or small rubble, so that the accessory does not float on the base.
This is a diorama accessory. The ground of the scene, glue and paints are not included in the package.
