In this item the Spanish brand AMMO of Mig Jimenez offers a pair of R-27T air-to-air missiles for 1:48 scale. It is not a kit of an aircraft but an accessory of armament that is hung under the wing or the fuselage of a machine already built. The count of two pieces matches symmetrical hanging on one pair of pylons.
The R-27 is a Soviet medium-range missile whose development was led by the Vympel design bureau and which entered service in the nineteen-eighties. The letter T in the designation means passive infrared guidance onto the heat signature of the target, to which Alamo B corresponds in NATO code designation. A conspicuous recognition mark of the whole series is the so-called butterfly surfaces in the middle of the body, which give the missile its maneuvering ability. The carriers of this ordnance tend to be MiG-29 and Su-27 machines and their later versions, in Russian service and with export users alike.
Before fitting, compare the shape and the spacing of the pylons on your kit with the shape of the missile's mounting. The stores are best painted separately from the airframe, so that the contrasting bands and markings can be sprayed cleanly. Finish off the fine edges of the sensors only after the main coat, when they will not be clogged by a heavy layer of paint. Keep the patina on a modest level: freshly hung ordnance tends to be noticeably cleaner than the airframe of the aircraft.
