The Riegelmine 43 was one of the German antivehicle mines of the Second World War. It differs from the plate mines at first glance: it has an elongated angular sheet-metal body, that is the shape of a narrow block, thanks to which it was laid out in rows in the terrain. For a diorama it is a rewarding object, because it stacks well into piles and boxes and clearly suggests engineer work in a scene. In modeling practice it is used both for German and for captured depictions.
The edges of the block are the most vulnerable part of small castings, so separate the parts with a scalpel and direct the sanding along the edge, not across it. Wash the casting in lukewarm soapy water before painting. The material of small accessories varies: glue resin with cyanoacrylate glue and injection-molded plastic with cement for polystyrene. The painting rests on a uniform matte shade, after which comes a dark wash in the engraved lines and fine scuffs applied with a sponge on the edges. If you are laying the mines straight into the terrain, add dry pigments in the color of the surface on the lower part — settled dust is what visually ties a small object to the base.
