A model of the light SA-342L Gazelle helicopter in 1:48 scale. The subject is a French machine recognizable by its tail rotor enclosed in a duct in the vertical tail surface.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Gazelle is a light French helicopter that appeared at the close of the 1960s and spread to dozens of countries, among other things thanks to licensed production abroad. It is powered by a turboshaft engine, carries a three-blade main rotor and stands on skids. It was used for reconnaissance, liaison, training and armed tasks. The SA-342 series came after the first SA-341 forms and got a more powerful powerplant.
The most striking feature is the shrouded tail rotor in a duct inside the vertical tail surface. This solution protects the rotor from contact with the ground and its surroundings and reduces noise. The second recognition feature is the smoothly shaped fuselage with large cabin glazing, which gives the crew a view downward and to the sides. It is precisely that cleanness of shape that makes the Gazelle a rewarding model on a shelf, because on smooth surfaces every joint and every unevenness shows.
The cabin glazing makes up a large part of the surface and decides the final impression. Finish the interior, therefore, before you glue the clear parts in, and mask the glazing before spraying. Fill the joints on the smooth fuselage and sand them with fine paper, otherwise they will stand out under a glossy finish. Glue the skids on a flat surface, so that the model stands without rocking. The extent of the delivery, the number of parts and the recommended procedure follow the manufacturer's instructions.
A model of the helicopter is supplied. Paints, glue, putty and a base are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
