This item is not an aircraft model but a detail set: a resin replacement cockpit meant to be built into a plastic kit of the Saab J 29 Tunnan in 1:48 scale. The casting replaces those parts of the interior that injection-molded plastic tends to simplify for technical reasons: the cockpit tub with its side panels, the instrument panel and the seat. The set is from Aires, a maker that has long specialized in resin interiors for aircraft models.
The Saab 29 Tunnan was a Swedish single-engine jet fighter with a swept wing and one of the first European aircraft of this layout to reach series production. It was powered by a centrifugal-flow jet engine built under license in Sweden as the RM 2 and derived from the British de Havilland Ghost. The J 29B version was the fighter and attack variant with greater fuel capacity and pylons under the wing, while the later J 29F received an afterburner and a modified wing leading edge. The barrel-shaped fuselage earned the type the nickname Tunnan, meaning the barrel.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with detergent: without removing traces of mold release agent, paint will not hold on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, never snap them off. Sand wet and with respiratory protection; do not inhale resin dust. It is bonded with cyanoacrylate glue; ordinary plastic cement does not dissolve resin and will not hold. Dry-fit everything before closing the fuselage, as the walls of the kit fuselage usually have to be thinned from the inside so that the halves close without a gap once the cockpit is in. Spray the interior with an airbrush and pick the detail out with a dark wash and a fine dry brush.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
