Pre-cut masking templates for a model of the SBD aircraft in 1:48 scale. You stick them on before spraying and take them off once the paint has dried.
Responsibility details are not available.
The canopy of the SBD is long and subdivided into a row of panels, because it covers the pilot and the gunner behind him. Cutting that many panels of framing out of adhesive tape by hand means long hours of work, and one slip of the blade shows on the finished model. Pre-cut templates shorten that step: the shapes are ready and cut for the parts the set is listed for. This item is in 1:48 scale and is listed for the SBD type.
The Douglas SBD Dauntless is an American two-seat carrier-based dive bomber from the Second World War period. Its recognition marks are the perforated dive flaps on the trailing edge of the wing, which kept speed within limits during a dive attack, and the long glazed canopy over the crew seated in tandem. It is precisely that glazing that makes the cockpit the most conspicuous place on a finished model.
Stick the templates onto a clean, degreased surface, always before spraying. Press the edges down carefully with a toothpick or a wooden stick, because paint will run under an edge that is not pressed down and the line will blur. Spray in thin coats and let them flash off. Take the template off as soon as the paint is dry to the touch; with a mask left on too long, paint may come away with it.
The aircraft model, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise. The extent of the coverage and the layout of the individual templates are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
