About product

A photo-etched set for the Dingo Mk.II scout car in 1:48 scale

A set of photo-etched parts from the Czech maker Hauler meant for the plastic kit of the British Dingo Mk.II armored scout car. This is an accessory, not a model - the kit has to be obtained separately. The parts are etched exactly for the Tamiya kit.

The real subject

The Dingo was a small British armored scout car with all-wheel drive and a crew of two. It was used for reconnaissance, communications and escort, that is, for tasks where speed and a low silhouette decided matters, not firepower. The Mk.II version differed from the first batch in changes to the hull and in the arrangement of the installation. The vehicle is so small that every oversized plastic detail shows up on it more markedly than on a tank.

Degreasing and primer, the foundation of everything

The commonest reason a photo-etched detail falls off in time, or the paint peels from it, is not bad glue but grease. Brass comes from the factory covered with a thin film that stays on it even after a wash in water. Use denatured alcohol or isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush, let the parts dry in the open and do not touch them with your fingers again - work in gloves or with tweezers. Then apply a thin coat of primer in several light passes, not in one heavy one. Only onto a surface prepared like this do paint and super glue hold the way they should.

Fitting tips

A dry run without glue matters more with photo-etch than with plastic - a finished part can no longer be reshaped. Glue the small brackets on last, so that they do not break off while the model is handled.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of British equipment in 1:48 scale
  • For modelers who want to refine the sheet-metal detail of a small hull
  • For a display case and for a diorama with a reconnaissance scene
  • Basic experience of photo-etch is recommended

The set is an accessory for a plastic kit; it is not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No, the package holds photo-etched accessories only. The plastic kit of the Dingo Mk.II has to be bought separately.

It was a small British armored scout car with all-wheel drive and a crew of two, used for reconnaissance and communications.

Brass comes from the factory covered with a thin greasy film that water will not wash off. Without degreasing with spirit, paint and super glue hold poorly and the detail comes loose in time.

That is not guaranteed. Photo-etched sets are designed for one particular kit, and the dimensions differ between makers.
