Photo-etched Eduard 1:48 Sea King STEEL seat belts of steel for the seats of the British Sea King helicopter. An accessory for a kit, not a model in its own right.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a stand-alone set of seat belts, not a complete interior photo-etch. The STEEL designation means that the belts are etched from steel instead of softer brass. A steel strap can be bent into a natural sag and will hold the shape, so the result looks like a fabric belt thrown across the seat cushion rather than a flat strip of tin. The set is an accessory for a Sea King helicopter kit in 1:48 scale.
The Westland Sea King is the British license-built version of the Sikorsky S-61 and with the Royal Navy it served in antisubmarine as well as general purpose and rescue versions. Whichever of them it was, the crew sat in an analog cockpit with round dials and in fixed seats with multi-point straps. The belts are among the details that turn a model into an inhabited machine; a plastic molding usually suggests them only by engraving, and on a photograph of a finished model that shows.
Cut the parts out with a sharp scalpel on a hard support and work over a light cloth so that the small buckles do not disappear. Shape the straps over the round handle of a brush or over a needle, and bend the buckles with fine-tipped tweezers. Glue with super glue in minute drops; thin cement for plastic will not take on metal. Degrease the metal before painting and lay on a base coat, otherwise the paint will not stay on smooth steel. Finish the seats before you glue the fuselage together.
