An Art Scale masking set for a model of the Supermarine Seafire F.XVII in 1:48 scale. Two details in the name are worth attention: double-sided means that the set deals with both sides of the glazing, and self adhesive that the masks stick by themselves, with no further glue.
Degrease the glazing and let it dry. Carry the pieces with tweezers, press them down above all at the edges of the frames and spray the paint in several thin coats. Thin coats matter more than one heavy one, because then the paint does not run under the edge of the mask. Pull the mask off shortly after it has dried, at an angle away from the frame. With a double-sided set the inner side is usually painted in the interior color first and only then the outer side.
The Seafire was the naval version of the Spitfire adapted for operating from aircraft carriers. The F.XVII version was among the late machines with the Rolls-Royce Griffon engine and, against the early Seafires, it received strengthened landing gear that stood up better to hard arrivals on deck. It flew with the Fleet Air Arm even after the Second World War. For a modeler it is an attractive variant precisely because it joins the familiar silhouette of the Spitfire to purely naval equipment.
