A sheep in 1:48 scale from Offset Scale Models is a small animal figure for bringing dioramas, vignettes and rural scenes to life.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is an animal figure, not a kit of equipment. The set is meant for dioramas and vignettes in 1:48 scale, where farm animals give a scene a civilian context and tell the viewer the scale of the surrounding equipment at once. The number of pieces in the package, the material and the dimensions are stated on the box. Take care when ordering: similarly named animal figures are made by other makers and in other scales too, so watch that this is a product of Offset Scale Models in 1:48 scale.
The domestic sheep belongs among the most common farm animals and on a diorama it will find a use at farmsteads, pastures, field tracks, marketplaces and village scenes across practically every period. In 1:48 scale a grown animal measures only a few millimeters, so the final impression is decided more by a clean outline and a natural stance than by the amount of small detail.
Separate the figure from the casting block or the print supports with a sharp cutter and sand the trace of the cut with fine abrasive paper; the legs are thin, so never break the part off. Before painting, wash the figure in lukewarm water with dish soap and let it dry thoroughly. Then comes a thin base coat and after it the base shade of the fleece — a broken white to light beige looks best. The fleece will come out when you apply a brown-gray wash over a light base and, once it has dried, bring the strands out with a dry brush in a lighter tone. Add the muzzle, the ears and the hooves in a darker shade and only suggest the eyes with a dot. Finally a matte clear coat, as farm animals should not be shiny. A little dust pigment on the underside of the body will tie the figure to the base of the diorama.
The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
