The Soviet helmet SSh-39/40 in 1:48 scale is a small accessory for figures, not a model on its own. You put it on a figure's head or lay it in a scene as set-aside equipment.

This item is an accessory for figures in 1:48 scale — it is not a kit of a model. It contains a casting of the Soviet steel helmet of the SSh-39 and SSh-40 patterns, which have an identical dome shape and are therefore commonly listed together with modeling accessories. You will use the helmet on a figure's head, hung on equipment or laid loose on the base of a diorama.
The Soviet steel helmet of the SSh-39 pattern has a smooth domed shell with a slightly drawn-out ridge and an evenly running edge with no pronounced visor. The SSh-40 pattern practically does not differ from it in outer shape — the change concerned the inner fitting, which was reworked into three pads attached by rivets passing through the shell. It is precisely these rivets that are in practice the most reliable distinguishing mark of the two patterns; in 1:48 scale, though, they are already beyond the limit of legibility, so the casting covers both variants.
Separate the casting from the casting block with a fine saw and level the surface left after the cut with a file, so that the helmet seats with no gap. Try the fit dry and only then glue; join resin parts with super glue, because glue for plastic does not hold on them. Before painting, wash the casting in lukewarm water with a detergent because of the release agent from the mold. Over a thin layer of base coat apply a matte shade, underline the edge of the helmet with a dark wash and lighten the crown slightly. A smooth dome easily looks flat, so it pays off to add a fine transition from the edge to the crown.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and without a figure. Paints, glue and further parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
