A resin accessory of the Quickboost brand, a sister range of the Czech manufacturer Aires, intended for kits of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.II fighter in 1:48 scale. This is not an airplane kit but a replacement part, a propeller assembly of the Rotol type that replaces the corresponding plastic parts of the base model. According to the name, an alignment jig is part of the set as well, which makes the correct and symmetrical seating of the propeller blades easier. The particular number of parts and the exact dimensions are stated on the packaging of the set.
The propeller is one of the most conspicuous elements of any airplane model and at the same time the place where the limits of a mold show up most on injection-molded plastic: the blades tend to be thicker, the profile flatter and the tip rounded. A resin casting captures the thin profile of a blade and the fine transitions at the propeller hub substantially more faithfully. The enclosed jig serves to keep the blades at the same angle, so that an unsymmetrical propeller does not arise, which is a frequent mistake with blades glued in by hand.
Wash the parts first in lukewarm water with dish soap, as the surface tends to carry remains of the mold release agent, which paint takes to badly. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine-toothed saw or a cutting disc, never break them. Protect your airways while sanding resin and sand wet. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), ideally the gel kind, which gives time to set the part. Lay down a primer before painting, otherwise the shade holds badly on smooth resin. Before gluing, always compare the accessory with the parts of the particular kit and adjust the mating surface if need be.
This is not a model kit. The set is intended to complete a separately sold plastic kit; the base model, glue and paints are not part of the package.
