This set from Brengun is intended for a modeler building the British Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX fighter in 1:48 scale who wants to refine the parts on the outer surface of the airframe. The set is cut for one particular kit, the Airfix one. It is not an airplane model; the base kit has to be obtained separately.
While interior sets aim inside the cockpit, which once the canopy is closed can be seen only through a gap, exterior accessories work on what is visible on a finished model all the time. Typically these are small raised features, covers, outlets and other parts that in injected plastic are either excessively thick or merely suggested by engraving. It is exactly such small things that decide whether a model reads as a scaled-down machine or as glued-up plastic. The advantage of resin is that it takes thin edges and undercuts that cannot be molded in a split metal mold.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry so that no mold release agent is left on the surface. Cut small parts off the casting block over a dish or a cloth so that they do not ping away. Mark the place for fitting on the model first and remove any plastic originals with a knife and sand them down. Bond with super glue in a minimal amount, and on the smallest parts pick a drop up on the tip of a wire. Fit them before varnishing so that the surface of the model is uniform in color, and fill the gaps with putty. Then spray both the resin and the surrounding plastic with primer, otherwise the difference in the absorbency of the base will show in the shade.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
