This item is not a kit of the aircraft but an accessory set for a model you have already bought. It holds replacement landing gear wheels in resin in 1:48 scale for the American Lockheed SR-71A reconnaissance aircraft. The point of the swap is simple: a resin casting will carry a sharper tread pattern and a cleaner shape of the hub than a split injection mold can manage, and on a finished model it is a detail that stays in view the whole time.
The SR-71A was a two-seat high-speed reconnaissance aircraft with a structure built largely on titanium alloys and with a pair of Pratt & Whitney J58 engines for power. It worked at great altitudes and at speeds markedly above three times the speed of sound, and the design of the landing gear and the tires was subordinated to that as well — they had to take both thermal loading and high touchdown speeds.
First wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent, so that remains of the mold release agent are removed — otherwise the paint holds poorly. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a cutting disc, level the area with a file and protect your breathing when sanding resin. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, not with polystyrene cement for plastic. Lay a thin primer on before painting. The tires of the SR-71 tend to be given as lighter, more gray-silver than coal black — check the shade against photographic documentation of the machine you are building before painting.
It is an accessory for a kit you have already bought, not a model in its own right. Paints, glue and the basic kit are not included in the package.
