A set of thin photo-etched parts from metal sheet intended for the additional refinement of a plastic model of the Sukhoi Su-2 in 1:48 scale. It is not a model of the aircraft or a kit, but an aftermarket accessory. It replaces and supplements those parts of the base model that cannot be produced finely enough in injection-molded plastic: instrument panels, seat belts, small levers and handles, covers, meshes and the crisp edges of sheet-metal parts. The manufacturer is the Ukrainian company Metallic Details, which specializes in photo-etched parts and resin accessories for aircraft models. It is based on the dimensions of the Zvezda kit.
The Sukhoi Su-2 was a Soviet single-engine light bomber and reconnaissance aircraft with a radial engine and a crew of two. It came into being in the second half of the 1930s and was deployed in the opening phase of the fighting on the Eastern Front. The glazed cockpit and the relatively large proportion of exposed interior surfaces mean that a photo-etched refinement of the interior really does show on the finished model.
Separate the parts from the fret with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, not with nippers — otherwise the sheet will bend. Make the bends on a photo-etch bending tool, or between two blades. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) in a minimal amount applied with a pin; on larger surfaces the slower-setting gel variant helps. Before painting, degrease the sheet and spray it with a base color, otherwise the covering paint will not hold on smooth metal. Try every part dry before gluing.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. It is not a complete model — the base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
