A set of pre-cut kabuki masks for a model of the Sukhoi Su-34, in the NATO code designation Fullback, in 1:48 scale. It is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory to a kit. New Ware marks its sets with the grades BASIC, ADVANCED and EXPERT; BASIC is the basic grade. The particular list of masks in the package is given in the enclosed instructions.
A kabuki mask is a thin Japanese paper tape with a sensitive adhesive. It shapes well on rounded surfaces, holds on glazing and on rounded transitions and once removed leaves no residue of adhesive. The pre-cut shapes correspond to the particular mold of the model, so the edges of the frames come out sharp and straight without cutting from tape by hand.
First degrease the glazing. Lift the masks out with tweezers and press them down with a wooden stick, so that they seat even in the corners. On modern aircraft it pays to spray a thin coat of the shade of the interior of the frames under the camouflage first, so that a different shade is not visible from inside. Take a mask off at a sharp angle while the paint is not fully cured. The remains of the sheet come in useful for masking wheels or small areas.
This is not a kit. The package contains only masking templates; the model, paints and glue are not part of it. Before buying, check that the set matches your kit.
