A kit of the Soviet Yak-9D fighter with extended range in 1:48 scale. The model is meant to be assembled and painted.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Yak-9 was among the most numerous Soviet fighter aircraft of the Second World War. It came about as a light and agile machine with good qualities at low altitudes, where most of the fighting on the Eastern Front took place. The structure joined a metal frame with a wooden skin and fabric on the control surfaces, which saved aluminum that was in short supply. It was driven by a Klimov twelve-cylinder V engine, and the armament consisted of a cannon firing through the axis of the propeller hub together with a machine gun. The form with the letter D meant the version with larger fuel tanks in the wing, and so with a markedly longer range, which allowed it to escort bomber formations deeper beyond the front.
It is a kit to be glued together and painted. In 1:48 scale the finished model comes out about eighteen centimeters long with a span of about twenty centimeters. The number of parts, the extent of the cockpit equipment and the choice of marking options are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Free the parts of excess material and of the marks left by manufacture, sand the mating faces and try the assembly dry before you lay any glue on. Finish and paint the cockpit before you close the fuselage. Wash and degrease the surface before painting. Mask the glazing before spraying and take the mask off as soon as the paint has set.
The set will please modelers with an interest in Soviet aviation and in smaller fighter aircraft for the display case. Paints, thinner, glue and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
