An accessory of the Metallic Details brand intended to replace the plastic exhaust nozzles of a model of the Su-34 in 1:48 scale. This is not a kit of the aircraft but an accuracy set which the modeler fits to a model bought separately. The benefit is a thinner wall at the edge of the nozzle and a finer division of the petals, that is detail that an injection mold for plastic cannot hold.
The Su-34 is a two-seat attack and bomber aircraft derived from the Su-27 design family. It differs from the fighter versions above all in its forward fuselage, with the crew seated side by side and with an armored cockpit; propulsion is provided by two jet units housed in separate nacelles. The rear of the airframe with its pair of nozzles and the extended fairing between them is among the most conspicuous areas of the whole machine, so everyone looking at the model looks at it.
Wash the cast parts in lukewarm water with dish soap before painting and let them dry on a paper towel. Before you start gluing, try the depth of seating dry: the nozzles are meant to look as if they grew out of the nacelle, not like a fitted mouthpiece. If the diameter is a hair different, take material off the plastic of the kit. Painting is best managed separately, with the part mounted on a stick. Apply metal shades in thin coats, best with an airbrush, and do not forget to stir them thoroughly before spraying — the pigment always sinks to the bottom. A different coloring inside and outside the nozzle, and light casts of brown, copper and blue-violet at the point of the greatest thermal load, give the surface depth. Finally we recommend a light application of dark pigment rubbed into the grooves; use matte clear at the end only very carefully, as it can easily kill the metal effect.
The set is an accessory to a plastic kit, which it does not hold. Paints, glue and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
