This resin set from the Quickboost brand of the Czech manufacturer Aires brings faithfully cast small air scoops and cooling vents for a model of the Soviet Sukhoi Su-7 fighter-bomber in 1:48 scale. It is not an airplane model but a detail accessory for more experienced modelers that replaces simplified or merely suggested plastic parts with a crisp casting with properly hollowed openings.

The real subject

The Sukhoi Su-7, NATO reporting name Fitter, was a Soviet single-engine fighter-bomber of the late 1950s with a markedly swept wing and a circular nose intake. It served as a strike aircraft with the Soviet Air Force and with a number of friendly countries and became the basis for the later family of Su aircraft with a variable-geometry wing.

Tips for working with resin

First wash the castings in lukewarm water with detergent to remove the remains of mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand the cut surfaces with respiratory protection. Glue the parts with cyanoacrylate, not with cement for plastic. Test the fit dry before painting, because resin may need a little cleaning up.
